Danger Charters, Key West

Welcome to Danger Charters in Key West, Florida. We look forward to meeting you on our one of our trips. Until then, please take a look around the below sections to get an idea of what to expect.

Our Key West Boats

Both The Danger and Danger's Prize are traditional American sailing craft known as "Skipjacks". These boats were originally designed and built to dredge oyster beds in the Chesapeake Bay region during the late 19th century. In the early 1900s, Skipjacks were sailed down to the Florida Keys to work as sponging and fishing vessels. Their shallow design, coupled with a huge amount of sail area, make these vessels ideal for sailing the backcountry.

There is no better way to experience the incredible natural beauty of the Keys than under a cloud of sail, in shallow and protected waters that provide flat seas even on the windiest of days!

Key West Boats

Sail aboard our custom designed replicas of a traditional American sailing craft known as a “Skipjack”.

Our boats are custom built replicas of a type of American sailing craft called a Skipjack.  Skipjacks were originally designed and built to dredge oyster beds in the Chesapeake Bay region during the late 19th century. In the early 1900s, Skipjacks were sailed down to the Florida Keys to work in the sponging and cargo hauling industries, and primarily as “Wrecking Schooners”, which were boats that raced out to salvage the many very profitable wrecks that went aground upon the reef and shallow waters off the Keys. A Skipjack’s shallow design, coupled with its impressively large sail area, make these vessels ideal for sailing the backcountry.

Our perfectly designed shallow-draft schooners enable us to access the very shallow waters that comprise the Key West National Wildlife Refuge and which is the home to countless beautiful and deserted out islands.  And, in turn, keep all of our guests in very calm, protected waters, even on the windiest of days, thus preventing any problems with sea sickness or rough water sailing.

There is no better way to experience the incredible natural beauty of the Keys than under a cloud of sail, in shallow and protected waters that provide flat seas even on the windiest of days!
