Fitness-seekers take note: if you’re looking for a fun way to improve your brain and body while soaking up some Key West sunshine, you just found it!
Kayaking is a fantastic activity that not only allows you to explore the outdoors but also offers a wide array of mental and physical health benefits. It’s an enjoyable, refreshing, and downright energizing way to boost your overall health and well-being. Sounds good? Well, then: kayaking in Key West is definitely worth your consideration.
Is kayaking good exercise?
It certainly is! You may not think of a kayak for fitness, but kayaking is excellent exercise. It yields a full-body workout that includes your core, arms, and back muscles while being low-impact enough for all kinds of bodies and abilities to join in on the fun.
The primary muscle groups kayaking engages are the upper body muscles. Paddling requires continuous arm and shoulder movement, making it an excellent exercise for toning and building muscle in these areas, as well as working through a full range of motion.
Kayaking also requires paddlers to use their core muscles – the abdominals, obliques, and backline – in a stirring orchestra of belly-shredding burn. Kayaking will recruit your full suite of core muscles, all of which help to stabilize your body and maintain proper posture. It’s a moderately challenging all-around workout that continues to burn calories long after you’re relaxing on the shore!
How about the legs? Well, you won’t be leaving leg day on the pontoon. Perhaps surprisingly, the legs are also engaged during kayaking – particularly when it comes to balancing and maintaining proper body position in the kayak. (Kayaking is good for balance, too!)
Is kayaking therapeutic?
It may look like a lot of flailing around to the untrained eye, but hear this: kayaking isn’t just a lot of happy splashing. It’s a great way to improve your cardiovascular health, boost stamina, and enhance overall fitness – and your brain health, too!
Meeting the challenge of kayaking offers a range of mental health benefits as well, like reducing stress, managing anxiety, and boosting your general mood and cognitive function. We’re going to stand up and say that kayaking can be therapeutic – and if you ask anyone who kayaks regularly, they’ll enthusiastically agree.
Is kayaking hard?
Not at all! Kayaking is a relatively simple activity that most anyone can try. And if you’ve done it once, chances are you can do it anywhere in the world! If you become masterful, there’s plenty of opportunity to go whitewater-crazy just for fun or on a competitive level. Whichever way you go, the health benefits are there from day one.
Side note: Everyone is welcome! Whether you’re an experienced kayaker or a beginner, the Danger Charters crew will meet you where you are. We cater to all skill levels, ensuring everyone gets the very best Key West kayaking experience.
Does Key West Kayaking Nirvana exist?
Oh, yes. And we’re it. At Danger Charters, we sail shallow-draft schooners – meaning we go where others can’t (and we love to go where others don’t).
On our National Wildlife Refuge tour, your Key West kayak tour begins right where the action is: in the shallow mangrove-shaded channels of the Backcountry. We take great pride in educating our guests about this important, protected area without causing distress to the marine ecosystem. All in all, the Backcountry is a 14-island, 375-mile stretch of open water that is home to hundreds of bird species; hawksbill, loggerhead, and green turtles; Florida manatee; Atlantic bottle-nosed dolphins; and the critically endangered Miami blue butterfly. You have a 360-degree experience right from your kayak!
This area is so picturesque and fun to explore that many of the Danger Charters crew members spend their free time in the Backcountry – it’s not to be missed!
